Nice hurricane shelter
I am a local resident and I live near the hotel. We sheltered for the incoming hurricane, Helene. Obviously, I have written reviews for this hotel before. I do this, because it’s important to future travelers. The hotel is a little older, but it is very clean and it’s still a nice place. that said, it is not a five star hotel.
I requested a handicap accessible room, because my shoulder is in an abduction sling as I just had surgery 15 days ago. My husband is not very mobile. We got room 101. It did not have anyone on either side, and was in the corner of the first floor facing the back pond. It was perfect. You can see pictures below, it was roomy, and we really were comfortable there and enjoyed our short stay. It had a roll in shower and everything was in order. I have no complaints whatsoever. if I have any issues, it’s working the TV every time I come. lol. The maintenance guy always shows me how to do it. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices. They have the best coffee around and that’s always available in the lobby. I enjoyed several cups while I stayed there. I also requested extra pillows and got those too. There was a choice of types. You could get cotton or feather. Anytime that I have an emergency, whether it be a hurricane or no AC, this is always our go to hotel. People Inormally know at the front desk were not there, but Erica and Francis were extremely helpful and friendly.

Way overpriced. Good breakfast and employees.
Very good breakfast. Every employee I interacted with was pleasant and helpful. The hotel itself was another story. It needs a facelift in the rooms (We stayed here twice in Feb).
The bathroom fan was failing and would (intermittently) literally vibrate the wall (room 405). The fan switch itself was broken. I mentioned this to a maintenance man, and he replaced it that day.
The beds are uncomfortable if you have anything wrong with your back. Especially room 208.
You cannot put the AC fan "on" continuously, just automatic.
GYM: The elliptical is tired. It functions, but some features don't work. The TV screen is half-lit until it has warmed up for @ 5 minutes. Interestingly, Fox News was not available on it, even though you could watch it in your room.
I have stayed at quite a few Hampton Inns across the eastern half of the US and this one is by far the worst. It is easily overpriced by a factor of three. We left Lake Wales and stayed at the Hampton Inn in Destin (off season, I know) for $100. There is no comparison between the two hotels.
No, I did not bother to voice any of this to the folks at the desk, what could they have done about any of it? I mentioned the switch to the maintenance man, because it was a fire hazard.

Room smelled musty. Looked like paint peeling of the door. Water for shower did not get very hot at all. The shower head is very dated. Thankfully didn’t need to wash my hair because if I had it would have taken forever to rinse out the shampoo. Definitely overpriced and will not be back. Very disappointing considering how much I paid.

For $319.00 the place was really awful. Drab decor, shabby towels and ugly dirty carpets.
Did not expect this to be such a truly shabby place.
We arrived later at night(10:30) and not even a bottle of water in the room to drink.
We would never stay there again.

This is an older hotel, but still good. We stayed here a couple of years ago during Ian. This time, my air conditioning was not working, so I had to come and stay.
I called early evening, and they were happy to accommodate me. I am also an honors member. I got there around 8 o’clock. For a Monday night, the hotel was fairly busy. The front desk was absolutely wonderful and I think it was Diane that was there. I remember her from last time. She gave me a room facing the pond in the back. And also gave me a cold can of Coke, so that I didn’t have to buy one. The room was extremely clean and very cool, which I needed. The humidity and heat is extreme at this time of year, and it’s a bad time to be without AC. I had to work the next morning early, so I got up and went to breakfast. They offer 3 types of coffee and it is excellent. I had eggs, sausage juice, and a waffle. Everything was delicious. The service here is great and I highly recommend the hotel. We will come anytime there is the threat of a hurricane. It is definitely worth the peace of mind.
