Rest exceeded our expectations

Cuba was the first holiday. After studying the reviews (the main cons) and taking into account the experience of acquaintances, expected the worst, but were generally satisfied with the rest.
The weather.
At the outset, I want to say that December was not the best month for holidays in Cuba. Bad luck with the weather. Of the 11 days, only two to three days had a green flag on the beach and were allowed to swim in the ocean.
Beach.
The beach is clean, beautiful, there are plenty of sunbeds, no questions asked. The only scary thing was the jellyfish in the sand for days.
Hotel.
The quality of the hotel corresponds to its price.
Rooms are cozy, spacious.
The property is large and all green. The food is monotonous, but there was always food and a choice (the meat is mostly chicken, but sometimes there was beef and pork).
There were 2 a la carte restaurants available by appointment (unlimited entry). We recommend you visit.
Of the main downside of the hotel, you want to highlight only slow service, but you can blame it on the character of the Cubans.
Also the hotel is very calm, quiet, a little boring. If you like to make noise, have fun, you won't find it here. This hotel is more suitable for retirees or people who want relaxation. For some, what is described can be a downside.
Excursions.
The only guided tour we bought at the hotel was a trip to Havana. It cost us $75 per person. And here we would like to advise against taking such a tour, as it is not worth its money in our view.
Most of the tour will take the road to Havana. Visits to the main attractions will be in a hurry: the highest bridge - 15 min, the forest - 15 min, the old town - 1 hour with a guide with no combined time for independent walk, the main square - 15 min, lunch - 1 hour, a cigar and alcohol store - 1 hour and free time in the new Havana - only 1 hour. That is, if you want to really see and visit something in Havana, it is better not to take a tour, but to rent a car and drive yourself. It will also be an alternative option to buy a tour to Havana via the Internet (Instagram, telegram) - it will cost you twice as much.

Poor, poorly maintained.

Emphasize that the employees were always friendly and proactive in offering us solutions but really the hotel is very poor. It lacks maintenance, the elevators spoiled every moment, the pool took a half empty day, the public bathrooms of the hotel always very but very dirty (whichever way you went) and the doors of those bathrooms none closed well.
Our room was found with broken switches, the quilt skirt stained and broken. Another day I had to spend hours not being able to get into my room because the lock was damaged and I could continue with the disasters.
In favor of the proximity to the beach and the location. The views of our room were beautiful at least.
The food was not a big deal but there was always the buffet full of things and friendly waiters. Apparently there is a lot of difference between the rooms attached to the hotel and the annexes but of course, that is not shown in the promotional photos.

Warning!

This is our first bad review we have to give from a hotel.
The hotel looked very welcoming in the pictures at first and we also liked the offer. Therefore, we booked this hotel relatively spontaneously through our travel agency.
We arrived on 31.12.24. Instead of a great start to the new year, the shock hit us:
The first room was horrible! As we walked in, we smelled the stinky smell of mold. Like we got into a basement. The entire bathroom was covered with mold from the tiles to the walls. Immediately we went to the reception and demanded a new room. Unfortunately, everyone would be fully booked and I said to my friend: I'm not staying here overnight! We were offered a new room for an extra charge, but in the 7th floor. Floor without a working lift. We had to agree and moved to the other room with sea view. Even though there was a run-down bath and mold to be found there, it smelled less muddy and we just wanted to go to bed after a long journey. None of the nights were relaxed as first the air conditioning was too loud and then water splashed through the pipes 24/7.
But the room was not the only one that should spoil our holiday:
The hotel is being promoted with other à la carte restaurants and a viewing bar in the 9th floor. Floor, which were closed during our first week. The argument was HOLIDAYS. So all we had left was the buffet in the dining room and at the beach restaurant. There was the same thing at lunch and dinner: Rice, beans, pumpkin, canned vegetables, coleslaw, rock hard bread, boiled pasta and cooked meat varieties. Everything was tasteless and partly unseasoned. Desserts every day were ready-made ice cream, rice, rice cakes and unripe fruit. On Wednesday everything was still fresh, but you could see that the bread was getting harder day by day and everything else was looking more and more unappetizing. In the dining room you also felt like you were in a canteen. When we saw several more cockroaches walking across the left buffet, it was over with us! We only went out for dinner in Varadero and complained to our travel agency. We wanted a new hotel. We also got gastrointestinal problems from the food. When we started eating out, we had no more problems.
The drinks were also lean and did not taste good. Half of the drinks on offer that were on the boards were never available. Outside, the cocktails were bottled in very small cheap plastic cups. There were hardly any edible snacks at the snack bar in the first week (see pictures). We tried with many small day trips somehow to save our vacation. Cleaners have never heard of dusting, either. Thick dust collected on all surfaces and the balconies were full of animal droppings that were never removed. All fittings were heavily calcified. We didn't mind that the system is old and in need of a bit of renovation, but these are just signs that you are not cleaning properly.
Only when our travel agency got involved did we get a new room with a sincere apology. We also got our paid extra back. There was also a voucher for a lobster/person and a bottle of white wine. We also thank you for this gesture. However, there was also some mold in the bathroom and plenty of dust in the third room. According to management, the room was the best they could offer us. That shocked us. If we had gotten this room from the beginning, we wouldn't have been happy either. However, after 6 sleepless nights we were glad that there were no disturbing noises. After our complaint there were also more snacks at the snack bar and the à la carte restaurant le Bistro was open Tuesday and Thursday evening. The lobster tasted good, however, all other food was made with almost the same ingredients as from the buffet. However, it was nicely arranged and there was good live music. Nevertheless, something should change quickly in this hotel, because by a European standard, this would be a one-star hotel. With a renovation and better trained staff, the hotel would surely be beautiful! We feel very sorry for the employees in particular, because it was not just us who were dissatisfied. The difference was that we dared to say what. I also worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years and know that such criticism is important for things to change in the hotel.
At first we thought it would be difficult to introduce varied food in Cuba, but we easily got very good and international food, as well as drinks in the restaurants in Varadero. It's definitely possible. No holidaymaker wants to have to eat the same thing every day.
The location of the hotel was very good and also the beach was beautiful. Also the staff were mostly very friendly, but most of them seemed quite offended if you don't tip with every drink.
In our opinion, a travel agency should not offer such a hotel at all. If you still want to go to Varadero, we recommend booking at least one 5 star hotel, which has been renovated in recent years.
We also heard unpleasant experiences from other holidaymakers in other hotel facilities.
Finally, a tip to anyone who wants to visit Cuba: Take enough euros and don't get ripped off. In some cases, the Cubans charge 20 times the written price, which is shown in pesos.

Cuba Casa Villa Cuba it is nice to see things are getting better in Varadero with Food and drinks.

Perfect little Gem I have stayed at many hotels in Varadero and this is now my New Favourite. Comfortable bed Great setting and surroundings friendly staff Food and drinks were good and it’s nice to see it again was here in Covid days and it was bad!

nothing special, never again

Food was terrible and the same slop everyday. Elevators didn't work for the first 3 days, we were on the 5th floor. When they said they were working, very sketchy, did not feel safe.
Place was extremely dirty, hallways weren't washed in months by the looks of thinks. Staff was ok but nothing special. Alcohol was bare bones, bottom of the barrel rum. Again, food was disgusting.
